In future AESA designs, with the advent of digital signal processing reaching microwave frequencies, does anyone think that analog phase shifter and TDU designs are going the way of the buggy whip? Maybe phase shifters move from GaAs to silicon and stops there and stays analog. Digital phased arrays are great for multi-beam antennas, but they are crazy-hungry for prime power. TDUs may be a different story, as they can be done farther back in the antenna feed so there are fewer of them and they won't blow the system fuse. What do you think? Did I just waste 10 years of my life designing phase shifters and TDUs?
